Women’s Tennis Defeats Penn State Harrisburg 9-0

HARRISBURG, Pa. – The Juniata women's tennis team played Penn State Harrisburg today, defeating the team by a score of 9-0.

The Eagles swept through doubles competition. Rachel Yurchisin (Cleveland, OH/Padua Franciscan) and Vienna Cordier (Medford, NJ/Shawnee) won first doubles 8-5, improving their record to 1-2 while duo Lauren Lucas (Holidaysburg, Pa./Altoona Area HS) and Savannah Bailey (Rockville, Md./Richard Montgomery) took home a 8-1 victory in the second spot. Soumya Polavarapu (Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater Raritan) and Theresa Joson (Bowmansville, Pa./Garden Spot) also won 8-1 at third doubles.

In singles play, all six athletes defeated their opponents. Lucas improved her record to 3-1 this season with a tough battle that went into a super tiebreaker, ultimately coming out on top at 10-8. Yurchisin won at second singles with a 6-1, 6-4 decision and Cordier beat out her opponent 6-1, 6-0 in the third spot. Bailey and Devin Ryman (Kingston, Pa./Wyoming Valley West) both went into super tiebreakers to ultimately capture the victory, and Kelley Appow (Freehold, NJ/Freehold Township) also went home with a win at fifth singles.

Juniata will return to play on Saturday, April 8 on their home court against Moravian. Start time is set for 1:00 PM.
