Women’s Tennis Falls at Catholic 6-3

WASHINGTON, D.C.- The Juniata women's team played its first Landmark Conference match of the season with a match against Catholic on Saturday. The Cardinals led 2-1 after doubles play and won four of the six singles matches to claim a 6-3 victory.

 

The only doubles win for the Eagles came at second flight. Lauren Lucas (Holidaysburg, Pa/Altoona Area HS) and Savannah Bailey (Rockville, MD./Richard Montgomery) needed an extra point but were able to defeat the pair of Erin Cole and Jenna Gietl 9-7.

 

In singles play, Lucas was able to defeat Laura Torsiello 6-2, 6-2 at first flight. Vienna Cordier (Medford, NJ/Shawnee) was the other winner for JC as she improved to 3-0 on the season with a 6-1, 7-5 win against Sarah McLean.

 

Juniata next plays Penn-State Harrisburg in a non-conference match on Tuesday. Start time is at 4:00 pm.
