Eagles Drop Thriller to Blue Jays in Landmark Championship 5-4

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa.- In a rematch of their showdown weeks ago, the Juniata and Elizabethtown women's tennis teams faced off in the Landmark Championship match on Saturday afternoon. In a battle that went wire-to-wire and was decided by in the third set of the deciding match, the Blue Jays bested the Eagles 5-4 to win their second straight Landmark title and seventh straight overall.

JC was ahead 1-0 after the completion of third doubles, which was won by the pair of Lauren Lucas (Holidaysburg, Pa./Altoona Area HS) and Nora Tsai (New Taipei Ciy, Taiwan) 8-3. Rachel Yurchisin (Cleveland, Ohio/Padua Franciscan) and Katharine Conklin (Freehold, N.J./Freehold Township) were defeated by Taylor Heisel and Madison McCall 8-0 at first doubles while Mitsuki Koh (Cupertino, Calif./Monta Vista) and Tori Gray (York, Pa./Central York) dropped an 8-5 decision to Lauren Berry and Sam Procak as E-Town went ahead 2-1.

The Eagles fell behind 3-1 in singles play with Conklin falling to Procak 6-0, 6-3 at fourth flight. Juniata rallied with wins at sixth singles by Gray (6-0, 6-3) and first singles by Lucas (6-3, 6-2). Tsai's 6-3, 6-2 victory against Berry put Juniata up 4-3.

Koh lost in three sets to Meghan Chemidlin 6-2, 4-6, 0-6 and the match was tied at 4-4. The championship came down to the second singles competition between Yurchisin and McCall. Yurchisin took the first set 6-4 with McCall answering with a 6-2 win in the second. In the third set, the two were tied at 4-4 but McCall broke serve to go ahead 5-4 and won 6-4 on her serve to secure the title for the Blue Jays.
