Eagles Falls to Royals 7-2 in Landmark Finale

SCRANTON, Pa.- The Juniata women's tennis team played its final Landmark Conference match of the season on Sunday afternoon against Scranton. The Royals got the better of the Eagles as they won by the score of 7-2.

 

The loss drops Juniata to 10-8 overall and 5-2 in the Landmark.  Scranton remains unbeaten in the conference at 6-0 and tied with Elizabethtown. Those two teams will battle for the top seed in the Landmark Tournament next Saturday. The Eagles will be the third seed.

 

Scranton took all three matches in doubles play. Rachel Yurchisin (Cleveland, Ohio/Padua Franciscan) and Katharine Conklin (Freehold, N.J./Freehold Township) had the closest decision as they fell 8-6 to the pair of Emily Walsh and Julia Frattaroli.

 

Lauren Lucas (Holidaysburg, Pa./Altoona Area HS) remained undefeated in Landmark play but needed an extra set at first singles in ensure that. She won her first set against Walsh 7-5 but lost 6-3 in the second set. The match went to a super tiebreaker where Lucas was a 10-6 victor.

 

The other victory in singles play went to Tori Gray (York, Pa/Central York) at fifth singles. She was a 6-4, 6-2 winner over Courtney Barron.

 

The Eagles will wrap up the regular season when they travel to Mechanicsburg to play Messiah in a non-conference match on Thursday. Start time will be at 4:00 p.m.
