Women ‘s Tennis Shuts Out Drew 9-0 On Senior Day

HUNTINGDON, Pa.- A day after dropping a close match with Elizabethtown, the Juniata women's tennis team hosted Drew on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles took down the Rangers 9-0 to improve to 9-6 overall and 4-1 in the Landmark.

 

Rachel Yurchisin (Cleveland, Ohio/Padua Franciscan) and Katharine Conklin (Freehold, N.J./Freehold Township) paired up at first singles and defeated Ty Ty Nguyen and Jessica Cheng 8-3. Tori Gray (York, Pa./Central York) and Mitsuki Koh (Cupertino, Calif./Monta Vista) won their second doubles match by the same score over Katie Marshall and Kirby Clark. Sam Hendricks (McVeytown, Pa./Mifflin County) and Lauren Lucas (Holidaysburg, Pa./Altoona Area HS) were 8-2 winners against Kathryn Swenor and Megan Jarvis at third doubles.

 

Lucas increased her winning streak to seven with a 6-1, 6-0 decision over Marshall at first singles. Gray improved to 9-2 on the season as she defeated Jarvis 6-2, 6-3. Vienna Cordier picked up her ninth win with a 6-2, 6-3 win against Swenor. Also getting victories were Yurchisin, Conklin, and Koh.

 

Prior to the match, the team honored seniors Gray and Koh. The two players have combined for over 70 singles and nearly 90 doubles wins with the majority of the doubles wins coming together as a pair. They have participated in the Landmark Tournament since their freshman years and were members of the first ECAC Championship team last season.

 

The Eagles will travel to Lancaster on Tuesday to play Franklin and Marshall in a non-conference match. Start time will be at 4:30 p.m.
