Eagles Earn 7-2 Landmark Win Over Moravian

HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The Juniata women's tennis team hosted Moravian in the Landmark Conference opener for both teams on Saturday afternoon. The Eagles bested the Greyhounds by the score of 7-2.

 

The Eagles took two of three matches in doubles play. Katharine Conklin (Freehold, N.J./Freehold Township) and Rachel Yurchisin (Cleveland, Ohio./Padua Franciscan) had a tough battle with Brittney Eady and Skylar Oliwa but fell by the score of 9-7.

 

Lauren Lucas (Holidaysburg, Pa./Altoona Area HS) went three sets in her match with Eady at first singles. After dropping the first set 6-2, Lucas came back to win 6-4 in set two. Set three went to a tiebreaker where Lucas was able to win the tiebreak 7-3 and the set 7-6.

 

Sam Hendricks (McVeytown, Pa./Mifflin County) won her team-high seventh match as she defeated Aisling Doyle 6-2, 6-3. Tori Gray (York, Pa./Central York) was victorious in her sixth match of 2016 with a 6-3, 6-0 decision over Grace Bailly. Other winners included Yurchisin and Mitsuki Koh (Cupertino, Calif./Monta Vista).

 

The Eagles travel to Scranton next Saturday for a match with the Royals. Juniata will look to avenge last year's 5-4 loss to Scranton in the Landmark Conference semifinals. Match time is at 1 p.m.
