Eagles Handle Bridgewater, 9-0

SALISBURY, Md.- The Juniata women's tennis team rebounded from a tough defeat on Friday to take a convincing 9-0 victory over Bridgewater on Saturday afternoon. The match was played on the Salisbury campus.

 

Juniata swept doubles action to take a quick 3-0 lead. The closest match came at the No. 1 slot where Bridgewater's Holly Knupp and Stephanie Barton were edged out by the duo of Rachel Yurchisin (Cleveland, Ohio/Padua Franciscan) and Katharine Conklin (Freehold, N.J./Freehold Township), 8-6.

 

Juniata swept the six singles matches, all in straight sets. Lauren Lucas (Holidaysburg, Pa./Altoona Area HS) notched her first collegiate victory with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Holly Knupp. Also getting their first ever win was Vienna Cordier (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) at fifth flight. She won in convincing fashion, 6-0, 6-0 against Shannon Quinn.


The Eagles will be idle until March 7 when they travel to Orlando, Florida for a week of matches. Juniata will play King's College (Pa.) and Ohio Wesleyan with match times beginning at 8 a.m. and 3 p.m., respectively.
