Women's Tennis Takes 8-1 Win Over Lions

ALTOONA, PA – The Juniata women's tennis team opened up their non-traditional season with an 8-1 win over Penn State-Altoona Tuesday night. 

Freshman Lauren Lucas (Hollidaysburg, PA / Altoona Area) debuted at No. 1 singles for the Eagles and defeated Michelle Colucci 6-1,6-2. 

Rachel Yurchisin (Cleveland, OH / Padua Franciscan), Sam Hendricks (McVeytown, PA / Mifflin Country), Tori Gray (York, PA / Central York) and Vienna Cordier also picked up wins in singles play. Yurchisin's opponent forced a third set but she would secure the win with a 10-4 set. Hendricks won 6-2,6-1, Gray won 6-1,6-1 and Cordier won 6-0, 6-1.

Juniata swept doubles play against the Lions. Lucas and Yurchisin played No.1 and defeated their opponents 8-1. Mitsuki Koh (Cupertino, CA / Monta Vista) and Katharine Conklin (Freehold, NJ / Freehold Township) won 8-1. Hendricks and Cordier blanked their opponents and won 8-0. 

Up next for the Eagles is Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regionals play Sept. 26 and 27.
