HUNTINGDON, PA – The Juniata women's tennis team (11-5, 5-2 Landmark) locked up the No. 3 seed with a 6-3 win over Goucher (5-8, 1-5 Landmark) Saturday afternoon. With the sun shining, temperatures nearing the 80-degree mark and a conference win, there was much for the Eagles to celebrate.
Juniata swept the Gophers in doubles. Heather Waring (San Antonio, TX / John Jay) and Rachel Yurchisin (Cleveland, OH / Padua Franciscan) won 8-5, Mitsuki Koh (Cupertino, CA / Monta Vista) and Tori Gray (York, PA / Central York) won 8-2 and Cara Stough (Friendsville, MD / Northern Garrett) and Samantha Hendricks (McVeytown, PA / Mifflin County) won 8-4.
Goucher was able to take three of the singles away from Juniata. Waring was forced to forfeit her singles match due to a quadricep injury. Yurchisin, Gray and Stough defeated their opponents. Gray came back from a 4-6 loss in the first set to take the next two and clinch the win for Juniata.
Juniata will host two non-conference games before the Landmark Semifinals April 29. They play Messiah on Wednesday, April 22 at 4:30 pm on the Raffensperger Tennis Courts.
