Women’s Tennis Falls to Stockton, Defeats Olivet

HILTON HEAD, SC- The Juniata women's tennis team faced off against Stockton University in the first of two matches on Thursday. The Eagles took first and third doubles but only claimed one singles match as they fell 6-3.

 

Samantha Hendricks (McVeytown, PA/Mifflin County) and Mitsuki Koh Cupertino, CA/Monta Vista) improved to 4-1 on the season with an 8-3 victory over the pair of Colleen Anderson and Scout Bauer. The duo of Heather Waring (San Antonio, TX/John Jay) and Rachel Yurchisin (Cleveland, OH/Padua Franciscan) claimed an 8-4 win overt Sydni Fahringer and Sam Koropchak.

 

The top three singles matches went to a super tie-breaker. Katharine Conklin (Freehold, NJ/Freehold Township) dropped the first set 6-4 but rallied to win the second, 6-2, and then the tie-breaker 10-1 over Fahringer at #2 singles. Yurchisin dropped her match with Koropchak (6-4, 4-6, 10-5) at first singles. Koh battled with Summer Conover at third singles but was denied victory as Conover took the match 6-2, 5-7, 10-4.

 

Against Olivet, the Eagles won 6-2. Juniata won all three doubles matches and the first three in singles competition. Yurchisin went to a super tie-breaker for the second time on the day but the outcome was different as she won over Maddy Drikakis 4-6, 6-1, 10-5. Conklin won at #2 singles 6-1, 6-3 and Hendricks got her first victory at #3 singles 6-3, 6-3.

 

Juniata will return to action on March 21 with a Landmark Conference home match against Catholic. Start time will be at 1 p.m.
