Fredericksburg, Va., The Juniata College women's tennis team competed in the singles and doubles portion of the USTA-ITA Southeast Regional Women's Tennis Championships this past weekend. This was their last competition of the fall season.

Rachel Yurchisin (Cleveland, Oh. / Padua Franciscan) and Heather Waring (San Antonio, Tx. / John Jay) defeated a pair from Salisbury 9-7 in round one of doubles play, but lost in round two 8-2. Yurchisin and Waring were both knocked out of round one of singles play. Each advanced to the consolation bracket, but lost again in round one.

Mitsuki Koh  (Cupertino, Ca. / Monta Vista) and Katherine Conklin (Freehold, NJ. / Freehold Township) copied Yurchisin and Waring, defeating a team from Salisbury in the first round before being bounced in the second. Koh was one of three Eagles to advance out of the first round in singles play. She was the only Eagle to claim victory in the first round of both the singles and doubles tournaments.

Emma Sebastian (Pittsburgh, Pa. / UpperSt. Clair) and Samantha Hendricks McVeytown, Pa. / Mifflin County) also advanced out of round one of singles play. Sebastian beat her opponent 7-5, 6-2, but was overmatched by Salisbury's Sage Cole 6-0, 2-6, 10-6 in round two. Hendricks thwarted Goucher's Leigh Oehrig 6-2, 6-2 in round one and Dani Yarron 6-2, 6-1 in round two to advance to the semifinals, where she was defeated 7-5, 6-1.

Juniata women's tennis will resume play in the spring season.
