HUNTINGDON, Pa. – The final week of the home regular season has reached Huntingdon, Pa. and the Juniata College women's tennis team will host Stevenson University Friday, April 11, at 1 p.m. in a non-conference match before hosting Drew University in a Landmark Conference battle Saturday, April 12, at 1 p.m.
The Eagles are coming off a 9-0 sweep of Landmark foe Susquehanna University for the teams' first conference victory of the season. Overall Juniata is 9-4 and 1-3 in league play with six matches remaining in the regular season schedule, two of which are against Landmark teams.
Last season the Eagles traveled to Owings Mills, Md. and swept Stevenson 9-0 on Greenspring Tennis Courts for Juniata's eighth win of the season. On the day the sophomore paring of Tori Gray (York, Pa./Central York) and Mitsuki Koh (Cupertino, Calif./Monta Vista) won No. 2 doubles 8-2. Entering the match tomorrow the duo is riding a three-match win streak and has won six of the last 10 matches.
Also on a roll is senior Megan Phillips (Jefferson Hills, Pa./Thomas Jefferson), who has won her last three singles matches and is 14-5 on the year. Phillips and junior Heather Waring (San Antonio, Tx./John Jay) have won back-to-back No. 1 doubles draws and are 4-0 in league matches.
Juniata is 3-3 against the Rangers since the establishment of the Landmark Conference. Each team holds the series lead on the opposing teams' court. The Eagles earned the 8-1 win last year in Madison, N.J. to take two of three matches at Drew since 2007. The Rangers have won the last two meetings in Huntingdon, but the Eagles took the first series match 7-2 on Raffensperger Tennis Courts back in 2008.
Last season both Drew and Juniata finished conference play with a 3-3 mark, but the head-to-head tiebreak went to the Eagles giving them the fourth playoff spot and a bid to the programs first Landmark tournament since 2009.
