YORK, Pa. – On a Sunday split between Elizabethtown College and York College, the Juniata College women's tennis team split matches falling to the Blue Jays in the morning 5-4 before defeating the Spartans 8-1. The Eagles earned their eighth win of the season improving to 8-4 on the year.
Senior Megan Phillips (Jefferson Hills, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) and junior Heather Waring (San Antonio, Tx. / John Jay) bounced back from a first match loss at the No. 1 doubles position to win their 13th match of the season against York. Waring took the No. 1 singles position against York 6-0, 6-0, and Phillips took both No. 2 singles matches 6-3, 6-2 on the day.
The sophomore paring of Mitsuki Koh (Cupertino, Calif. / Monta Vista) and Tori Gray (York, Pa. / Central York) took both No. 3 doubles matches. Koh dropped her No. 4 singles match against Elizabethtown, but bounced back for a No. 3 win against York. Gray won her No. 5 match against Elizabethtown in straight sets winning the second set tie break 9-7 and the No. 4 singles match against York.
Freshman Rachel Yurchisin (Cleveland, Ohio / Padua Franciscan) earned the final win for the Eagles against Elizabethtown winning No. 3 singles 6-3, 6-2. Against York College sophomore Jacklyn Renninger (Manheim, Pa. / Manheim Central) and junior Cara Stough (Friendsville, Md. / Northern Garrett) grabbed the No. 3 doubles win and Renninger took No. 5 singles 6-2, 6-3.
The Eagles will return home Tuesday, April 8, at 3:30 p.m. to host Susquehanna University.
