HUNTINGDON, Pa. – The Juniata women's tennis team gave a gritty performance against the Cardinals of Catholic but came up just short on Saturday afternoon. Despite the loss, however, the Eagles finish the season with an impressive 13-5 record and just the second playoff berth in program history since joining the Landmark Conference.
The Eagles took a 2-1 lead in doubles play before finding themselves in a battle in singles play. Behind freshman Yana Kohler (Lancaster, Pa./Conestoga Valley) and sophomore Cara Stough (Friendsville, Md./Northern Garrett) Juniata made it tough on the Cardinals. Kohler grinded out a tough, three-set win and Stough forced a tie-breaking match with a straight set victory.
Also impressive were Tori Gray (York, Pa./Central York) and Mitsuki Koh (Cupertino, Calif./Monta Vista). The freshmen duo paired to earn the Eagles' most impressive doubles win of the day. Gray and Koh were dominant, winning 8-2.
The Eagles will travel to face the Goucher Gophers in the Landmark playoffs semifinals. The match will take place at 3:00 PM.
