Juniata did manage to earn some important victories against Scranton, however. In singles play, Heather Waring (San Antonio, Texas/John Jay) and freshman Yana Kohler (Lancaster, Pa./Conestoga Valley) each managed wins, with Waring winning 7-6, 6-2, and Kohler winning 5-7, 6-3, 6-1. Waring was especially impressive on Tuesday afternoon. In a remarkable performance, the sophomore came back to win in her first set after being down 5-0, and eventually finished the match in straight sets.
Waring was also an integral part of Juniata's win in doubles play. With her partner, junior Megan Phillips, (Jefferson Hills, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) Waring helped the Eagles procure a 9-7 win. Behind Waring in the No.1 position the Eagles fought strong against the Royals, but came up short.
The Eagles will try to get back on track on the road against McDaniel and take their second shot at earning their 10th win of the year. The match will take place at 3:00 on Friday.
