Huntingdon, Pa. – After earning their first Landmark Conference victory in the last three years against Drew, the Eagles were not able to continue that streak in their 2012-2013 home opener. The Eagles fell 7-2 against Landmark foe Goucher, in a match that pitted two 7-1 teams against each other.
Despite the loss, however, the Eagles' blossoming talent managed to shine through in several positions. Junior Megan Phillips (Jefferson Hills, Pa. / Thomas Jefferson) is clearly developing into a strong leader; showing toughness and courage in both singles and doubles competition. Meanwhile, freshman Tori Gray earned one of Juniata's two victories on the day, rebounding to win the final two sets 6-1, and 10-8, after dropping the first by a score of 4-6.
The Juniata women have clearly formed an identity under head coach Jason Cohen and, even in defeat, have shown that they are team that will compete in the Landmark Conference. At each level of competition the Eagles fought until the end, and fell just short of two victories in doubles competition. They are now 7-2 overall, and 1-1 in Landmark Conference play.
The Eagles will look to bounce back on the road against both Stevenson and Salisbury on Saturday, March 30th, at the McDonogh School.
