Juniata Women Continue Strong Start Over Drew

MADISON, N.J. ­- The Juniata College women's tennis team earned its seventh win of the season Saturday on the road at Drew University. The Eagles (7-1, 1-2 Landmark) won the match by a score of 8-1. The victory marked the first conference win for the Eagles since 2010.  Juniata has also already surpassed its win total from all of last year.

 

Sophomore Cara Stough (Friendsville, Md./Northern Garrett) won in straight sets at the No. 5 position. She took each set by a score of 6-0 and continued her dominant season. Stough has not lost in singles competition in 2012-2013.

 

Junior Megan Phillips (Jefferson Hills, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) was also impressive, pulling out a gritty win in the No. 2 position. After dropping the first set 6-1, she worked back to win the next two sets 6-3, and 6-1.

 

Juniata swept doubles play.  Phillips teamed up with sophomore Heather Waring (San Antonio, Texas/John Jay) in the No. 1 position and won 8-1. Freshman duo Tori Gray (York, Pa./Central York) and Mitsuki Koh (Cupertino, Calif./Monta Vista) also won 8-1, coming up with a victory in the No. 2 doubles position.

 

In Jason Cohen's first full season as Juniata head coach, the Eagles now have their most wins in a single season since 2009-10. They look to continue their strong start on Tuesday, March 26 at home against Goucher at 3 pm.
