HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Juniata College men's and women's tennis teams each pulled out 6-3 wins in day one of competition down in Hilton Head, S.C. Sunday. The men defeated Gordon while the women took down Richard Stockton. Both programs are now 3-0 in head-to-head matchups this season.
Juniata's men were down 2-1 after doubles, and dropped their first singles match. But the Eagles rallied and won at positions two through six to earn the team win. After splitting singles play with Richard Stockton, the women went on to sweep all three doubles.
Men's Tennis
Senior Brice Morey (Enola, Pa./East Pennsboro) and junior Justin Wisniewski (Moorestown, N.J./Moorestown) along with freshmen Bryan Gregory (Glen Mills, Pa./Garnett Valley) and Mike Lifshitz (Worcester, Mass./Worcester Academy) downed their opponents in straight sets in singles play. Gregory and Lifshitz were the Eagles lone doubles win. They defeated Joe Dougherty and Mike Olszak 8-3 at the No. 3 position.
Women's Tennis
Sophomore Heather Waring (San Antonio, Texas/John Jay) and junior Megan Phillips (Jefferson Hills, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) won at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions, respectively. Phillips defeated her opponent in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2. Sophomore Cara Stough (Friendsville, Md./Northern Garrett) earned the other singles win. She won 6-2, 6-1 at the No. 4 position.
The women continue competition Monday, March 11 when they take on Alfred at 3:30 p.m. Both teams will face Messiah on Tuesday, March 12 at 12:30 p.m.
