Women's Swimming Ends Landmark Champs in Seventh

BALTIMORE, Md.- The Juniata women's swimming team concluded the Landmark Conference Swimming and Diving Championships with a strong performance that moved the team up one spot in the points standings for a seventh-place finish. 

Kara Mette earned a spot in the A Final for the 200-yard backstroke, while she went on to set Juniata's second-best time in the event. Juniata's 400-yard freestyle relay time picked up valuable points with a sixth-place finish in the event.

Mette completed the 200-yard backstroke in 2:14.69 to earn seventh place in the event, shattering her previous-best time of 2:17.16. She concludes her collegiate career with the program's second-best time, as Amy Sutherland '07 maintains Juniata's top time of 2:13.39. 

The 400-yard freestyle relay team of Kristen Miller, Grace Finch, Maegan Jordan, and Mette earned a sixth-place result in the event with a time of 3:57.34. The team's best time of the year up to that point was a 4:06.33 set at Misericordia in November.

Emma Mumau qualified for the B Final of the 200-yard breaststroke, and she was able to finish the event in fifth place for 13th overall with a time of 2:35.05. Her best time of the year up to that point was 2:40.52 at Misericordia in November. Manali Misra set a new event personal record with a time of 2:52.86 to earn 21st place. Her previous best stood from Misericordia in November, a 2:54.10.

Miller and Amanda Puza each qualified for the B Final of the 200-yard butterfly. Miller was third in the event and 11th overall with a time of 2:31.21. She set a new best of the year, down from 2:37.09 from Wilkes last month. Puza claimed fifth in the B Final and 13th overall with a time of 2:42.31 and a new personal record. She had set a time of 2:44.06 at the 2022 Landmark Championships.

Jordan and Puza also raced in the 1650-yard freestyle. Jordan claimed 13th place with a time of 19:45.31, breaking her personal record of 20:30.33 from Misericordia in November. Puza completed the race in 21:53.71, as she took nearly a minute-and-a-half off her personal record. Her best prior was a 23:12.60 from the Cougar Splash at Misericordia. 

Finch, Megan McConnell, and Snabu Neupane also raced in the 100-yard butterfly. In the preliminary heats, Finch set a 1:00.74 to place 19th, a new best time this year. She had set a 1:01.44 at Misericordia. McConnell finished 31st with a time of 1:20.45, while Neupane set a new personal record of 1:25.63 to claim 32nd place. Her best time prior was a 1:30.29, set at Wilkes last month. 

Juniata jumped ahead of Goucher in the points standings from yesterday to claim seventh place with a score of 160, erasing a nine-point deficit at the start of the day to finish 11 points clear of the Gophers.
