Swimming Breaks Two Juniata Records on Day One of Landmark Championships

Boyds, Md.- The Juniata men's and women's swim team opened up competition at the Landmark Conference championship meet on Friday. The women currently sit in fifth with 69 points while the men sit in seventh with 12 points. 

This morning during prelims, in the women's 200 IM Tabi Dettelback (Martinsville, N.J. / Bridgewater Raritan) placed 17th with a time of 2:21.13. In the men's 50 free, Evan Walker (Versailles, Pa. / East Allegheny) placed 24th coming in with a time of 23.67. In the 500 free, Gianna Canale (Egg Harbor City, N.J. / Cedar Creek High School) finished 25th with a time of 5:54.87 while Emma Pinto (Washington, N.J. / Warren Hills Regional HS) finished 29th touching the wall at 6:27.98. In the 50 free, Meghan Brubaker (Lancaster, Pa. / Lampeter-Strasburg) (26.50), Priscilla Diamond (Mechanicsburg, Pa. / Mechanicsburg Area HS) (26.67), and Carolann Edwards (Heston, Pa. / Huntingdon Area HS) (27.73) finished 24th, 25th, and 32nd, respectively. 

The Eagles opened up finals with a fifth-place finish in the 200 free relay. The team of Brubaker, Kendra White (Jersey Shore, Pa. / Jersey Shore Area Senior H.S.), Diamond, and Cassie Sanidad (Silver Spring, Md. / Springbrook) clocked in at 1:44.01. In the 500 free, Hunter Mona (State College, Pa. / State College Area) re-broke the Juniata record coming in with a time of 4:47.75 to take ninth overall. In the 500 free, White finished eighth clocking in at 5:21.60. 

In the 50 free finals, Frederick Ginder (Victor, N.Y. / Victor Senior High School) took 14th with a time of 22.23. Ginder also re-broke the Juniata record that he broke during prelims. In the final event of the night, JC placed fourth in the 400-medley relay. The quartet of Dettelback, Sanidad, White, and Brubaker came in with a time of 4:15.16. 

After day one the Eagles went nine lifetime best and two season best times.
