Swimming Opens Up New Year Against Chatham

HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The Juniata swim team fell 109-80 as they opened up 2020 with Chatham University

The Eagles opened up the meet with a first place finish in the 400m medley relay. The team of Tabi Dettelback (Martinsville, N.J. / Bridgewater Raritan), Cassie Sanidad (Silver Spring, Md. / Springbrook), Kendra White (Jersey Shore, Pa. / Jersey Shore Area Senior H.S.), and Meghan Brubaker (Lancaster, Pa. / Lampeter-Strasburg) clocked in at 4:58.88. In the 800m freestyle, Gianna Canale (Egg Harbor City, N.J. / Cedar Creek High School) took second with a time of 11:13.14. In the 200m freestyle, Emma Pinto (Washington, N.J. / Warren Hills Regional HS) (2:28.89) finished second while Emma Sprowls (Coal Center, Pa. / California Area HS) (2:53.97) finished fifth. Chatham took the top spot in the 50m freestyle but the Eagles claimed 2nd, 3rd, and 4th. Priscilla Diamond (Mechanicsburg, Pa. / Mechanicsburg Area HS) finished with a time of 31.40, Brubaker finished with a time of 31.58, and Carolann Edwards (Heston, Pa. / Huntingdon Area HS) finished with a time of 32.97. 

Dettelback finished second in the 200m IM touching the wall at 2:43.79. Sanidad took the top spot in the 200m butterfly as she clocked in at 2:43.57. In the 100m freestyle, JC finished 2nd, 3rd, and 4th. Diamond came in with a time of 1:09.67, Canale finished with a time of 1:10.22, and Brubaker finished with a time of 1:10.65. In the 20m backstroke, Dettelback finished second with a time of 2:39.47 and Edwards finished third with a time of 3:01.40. In the 400m freestyle, White finished third clocking in at 5:11.47 while Pinto finished fourth clocking in at 6:14.72.

Sanidad claimed another first place as she finished with a time of 2:56. 92 in the 200m breaststroke. In the 200m breaststroke, Sprowls took second with a time of 3:13.94. In the final event, JC finished second in the 400m freestyle relay with a time of 4:46.10. 

On the men's side, Fred Ginder (Victor, N.Y. / Victor Senior High School) touched the wall at 26.20 in the 50m freestyle. In the 200m butterfly, Evan Walker (Versailles, Pa. / East Allegheny) clocked in at 2:41.32. In the 400m freestyle, Hunter Mona (State College, Pa. / State College Area) finished with a time of 4:23.62. Mona's 400m free time is also a lifetime best swim. 

The team returns to the pool January 17th-18th for the Vulcan Invitational hosted by Cal U.
