Women's Swimming Defeats Penn St.-Altoona but Falls to Cal U

HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The Juniata women's swim team defeated Penn St.-Altoona, 157-40 but fell to California University of PA, 134-61 in a tri-meet on Friday evening.

The Eagles opened up the meet with a second place finish in the 200m medley relay. The quartet of Tabi Dettelback (Martinsville, N.J. / Bridgewater Raritan), Cassie Sanidad (Silver Spring, Md. / Springbrook), Alex Fontes (Plymouth, Mass. / Sturgis), and Meghan Brubaker (Lancaster, Pa. / Lampeter-Strasburg) clocked in at 2:12.06. In the 800m freestyle, Kendra White (ersey Shore, Pa. / Jersey Shore Area Senior H.S.) finished second touching the wall at 10:24.41. In the 200m freestyle, Gianna Canale (Egg Harbor City, N.J. / Cedar Creek High School) finished fourth with a time of 2:36.29 while Emma Pinto (Washington, N.J. / Warren Hills Regional HS) finished fifth with a time of 2:55.56. 

In the 50m freestyle, Priscilla Diamond (Mechanicsburg, Pa. / Mechanicsburg Area HS) (30.70) finished fourth and Emma Sprowls (Coal Center, Pa. / California Area HS) (31.67) finished fifth. In the 200m IM, Dettelback took third with a time of 2:42.54 and Fontes finished fourth coming in with a time of 2:51.81. Fontes took the top spot in the 100m butterfly with a time of 1:12.06 while Sanidad finished third with a time of 1:13.81. 

In the 100m freestyle, Brubaker finished third touching the wall at 1:09.69 and Diamond finished fifth with a time of 1:11.44. In the 100m backstroke, Dettelback finished third coming in with a time of 1:13.84. and Carolann Edwards (Heston, Pa. / Huntingdon Area HS) finished fifth with a time of 1:26.83. White finished second in the 400m freestyle coming in with a time of 5:04.31 while Pinto finished fifth with a time of 6:16.40. 

Sanidad finished second with a time of 1:21.82 and Sprowls finished third with a time of 1:26.52 in the 100m breaststroke. The Eagles took third and fourth in the 200m freestyle relay. The team of Brubaker, White, Sprowls, and Diamond clocked in at 2:06.03 and the team of Canale, Pinto, Courtney Frye (Roaring Spring, Pa. / Central High School), and Edwards clocked in at 2:19.15. 

The Eagles will travel to Millersville to compete in a tri-meet with Immaculata on November 23rd.
