Swimming Takes Second at Chatham Invitational

PITTSBURGH, Pa.- The Juniata men's and women's swim team's both took second place at the Chatham Invitational, Saturday. The women's team finished with 616 points while the men's team finished with 204 points.

The women started off the meet with a second place finish in the 200 medley relay. The quartet of Tabi Dettelback (Martinsville, N.J. / Bridgewater Raritan), Cassie Sanidad (Silver Spring, Md. / Springbrook), Alex Fontes (Plymouth, Mass. / Sturgis), and Meghan Brubaker (Lancaster, Pa. / Lampeter-Strasburg) touched the wall at 2:03.89. In the 1000 freestyle, Kendra White (Jersey Shore, Pa. / Jersey Shore Area Senior H.S.) came in third with a time of 11:57.25. Sanidad took first in the 50 breastroke coming in with a time of 34.16 while Emma Sprowls (Coal Center, Pa. / -) finished third with a time of 35.98. 

In the 200 freestyle, Priscilla Diamond (Mechanicsburg, Pa. / -) clocked in at 2:32.45 finishing seventh and Emma Pinto (Washington, N.J. / -) took 12th with a time of 2:48.87. Dettelback claimed third (2:27.94) in the 200 IM and Brubaker took eighth (2:41.32). In the 50 backstroke, Dettelback claimed first as she touched the wall at 30.90, Carolann Edwards (Huntingdon, Pa. / -) finished seventh with a time of 37.31, and Pinto finished eighth with a time of 38.18. 

In the 100 butterfly, Fontes touched the wall at 1:06.22 to take third place. Sanidad took first place in the 200 breaststroke as she clocked in at 2:44.79 while Sprowls finished fourth coming in with a time of 2:55.31. In the 50 freestyle, Brubaker (28.21), White (28.59), Diamond (29.47), and Edwards (32.78) finished third, fourth, sixth, and ninth, respectively. In the 100 freestyle, Brubaker finished fifth (1:03.13), Sprowls finished ninth (1:06.22), and Diamond finished tenth (1:06.27). 

In the 100 backstroke, Dettelback (1:07.15), Edwards (1:18.64), and Pinto (1:22.30) finished third, fifth, and seventh, respectively. In the 100 breaststroke, Sanidad (1:15.19), Fontes (1:19.69), and Sprowls (1:20.83) placed first, third, and fourth, respectively. White took fourth in the 500 freestyle clocking in at 5:49.52. In the 50 butterfly, Sanidad (29.87), Fontes (30.50), and Diamond (34.24) placed second, fourth, and sixth, respectively. 

White took seventh in the 100 IM, while Brubaker finished eighth, and Edwards finished tenth. Dettelback claimed first in the 200 backstroke touching the wall at 2:23.78. In the 200 butterfly, Fontes placed first coming in with a time of 2:25.79. 

The Eagles closed out the meet with a fourth and a seventh place finish in the 200 freestyle relay with times of 1:55.01 and 2:04.41. 

On the men's side, Hunter Mona (State College, Pa. / State College Area) claimed first in the 1000 freestyle touching the wall at 10:32.90. Mona took first again as he touched the wall at 28.08 in the 50 backstroke. In the 100 butterfly, Evan Walker (Versailles, Pa. / East Allegheny) finished fourth with a time of 1:02.22. Mona finished second in the 50 freestyle clocking in at 24.16 while Walker finished fourth with a time of 25.34. 

In the 100 freestyle, Frederick Ginder (Victor, N.Y. / -) finished second with a time of 52.26 while Walker placed fifth with a time of 56.65. Mona took yet another first place as he finished with a time of 5:08.09 in the 500 freestyle. In the 50 butterfly, Ginder took second with a time of 26.74 while Walker took third coming in with a time of 28.10. 

The Eagles will travel to Scranton for a tri-meet with Goucher next Saturday at 1:00 pm.
