Swimming Competes Against Elizabethtown

HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The Juniata swim team competed in their first home meet of the season against Elizabethtown. The Blue Jays dominated the Eagles in a conference meet with the final scores being 63-172 for the women and 12-216 for the men. 

In the first event of the meet, in the 200 medley relay the team of Carolann Edwards, Meghan Brubaker (Lancaster, Pa. / Lampeter-Strasburg), Alex Fontes (Plymouth, Mass. / Sturgis) and, Krista Peachey (Hummelstown, Pa. / Lower Dauphin) came in a close second to Elizabethtown. The Blue Jays finished first just by .12. In the 800 free, Emily Angeline (Harrisburg, Pa. / Central Dauphin East) came in second with a time of 11:40.62. Brubaker finished fourth for the Eagles in the 200 free finishing just one second behind the third place finisher. 

Brubaker put up a strong performance in the 100 breaststroke finishing second, just out touching Elizabethtown. Fontes then took top honors in the 200 butterfly finishing with a time of 2:39.44. In the 50 free, Peachy came in second while Danielle Ochs (Huntingdon, Pa. / Juniata Valley) finished fifth and Eliis Irv (Hampshire, England / Havant) finished just behind Ochs. Angeline took fourth place in the 100 free while Ochs finished behind her in fifth. In the 200 backstroke, Peachy out touched the third place finisher by two seconds finishing with a time of 2:54.39. 

Fontes again took top honors in the 200 breaststroke finishing with a time of 3:08.55 just three seconds ahead of the opponent. Angeline finished third in the 400 free coming in with a time of 5:41.06. Fontes in her final event of the day took the top spot in the 100 butterfly finishing with a time of 1:11.66, while Peachy finished fourth with a time of 1:21.95. In the final individual event of the day Brubaker finished third in the 200 IM coming in with a time of 3:01.09. 

On the men's side, Jackson Hoch (Carlisle, Pa. / Carlisle) finished third in the 200 free out touching the fourth place finisher by 18 seconds. Stephen Lane (Three Springs, Pa. / Southern Huntingdon) finished fourth for the Eagles in the 50 free coming in with a time of 35.12. Hoch and Lane also took fourth and fifth place respectively in the 100 free. Hoch then put up an impressive finish coming in second in the 400 free finishing seven seconds ahead of third place. 

The Eagles return to the pool January 13th when they travel to Chatham University for a tri-meet also against Franciscan University. The meet will start at 1:00PM.
