Juniata College Swim Team Participates in Tread-A-Thon to Set New World Record

HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The Juniata College swim team participated in a Tread-A-Thon on Wednesday, September 27th.

The International Water Safety Foundation (IWSF) is a non-profit organization raising drowning awareness while bringing basic swimming, water safety, and safe rescue skills to children in developing countries. The goal of the Tred-A-Thon is to fund drowning intervention programs like SWIM Cambodia.

From 5:00 PM to 5:30 PM the Juniata swim team attempted to break the Guinness Book of World Records for "Most People Treading Water at the Same Time in Multiple Locations." The record currently sits at 805 people. While Juniata just had ten people participate in their pool, there were other colleges and swim teams from across the country also participating at that time.

Teams participating in this event are raising funds to support the fight against drowning. The teams agree to make a contribution of 50% of the gross revenue to the International Water Safety Foundation (IWSF) from their Tread-A-Thon. The IWSF has an obligation to donate 80% of the portion of raised funds to go directly to funding a vetted drowning intervention project.
