Eagles Set Multiple Season Bests at Tri-Meet

THE HEADLINE: Although finishing last at the Landmark Tri-Meet against Scranton and Goucher, Juniata showed improvements, as five Eagles set season bests, including three freshmen.

FIRST PLACE FINISHER: Krista Peachey (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) finished first in the 100-yard butterfly, setting her personal best in the event at 1:02.59. Peachey hit the wall .03 seconds before teammate Jocelyn Skelly (Hershey, Pa./Hersey) who placed second.

SEASON BEST STANDOUTS: Senior Elise Kury (Willow Street, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) set her season best in the 100 backstroke with her time of 1:22.48. She was able to shed two seconds off of her previous season best, set against Millersville. Kurry finished in ninth behind Peachey (1:13.46) and teammate Elena Diaz de Marco (1:18.29).

Freshman Kerry McClaughry (Somerville, N.J./Somerville) left the meet with two new season bests, one in the 200 freestyle and the other in the 100 breaststroke. Her time of 2:18.86 put her in seventh behind three Royals, two Gophers and Diaz de Marco. She then placed third with a new season best with her time of 1:22.22, .20 seconds faster than her previous.

Emily Stahl's (State College, Pa./State College Area) 1:03.57 100-yard freestyle put her at fifth in the event and the first Eagle to finish.

Meghan Brubaker (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) set her season best in the 500 freestyle with her time of 6:36.74. She finished sixth in the event and 24 seconds behind teammate Emily Angeline (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin East), who finished fourth.

RELAYS: The Tri-Meet began with the women's 400-yard medley relay. The Eagles relay team, consisting of Peachey, McClaughry, Skelly and Stahl, finished fourth out of five relay teams in 4:44.06.

At final event of the day was the 400-yard freestyle relay. Juniata placed fifth behind two Scranton relay teams and two Goucher relay teams. Maiya Mastovich (Johnstown, Pa./Westmont Hilltop), Kury, Diaz de Marco and Nadia Moss (Narragansett, R.I./St. Margaret's School, Va.) finished the event with a time of 4:53.73.

UP NEXT: The Eagles will return home to Binder Natatorium on Saturday, Nov. 12, for their second and final home meet of the season. Before the 1 p.m. meet, the Eagles will honor their senior Elise Kury.
