Home Opener Ends 114-70 in California's Favor

Huntingdon, Pa. - Juniata's swim team took on the California University of Pennsylvania Vulcans at Binder Natatorium, finishing with a score of 114-70 in California University's favor.

The Vulcans came out strong as the meet began with the 200 medley relay. Juniata finished behind all three of the Vulcans' relay teams with their time of 2:20.77, ten seconds out of first. The Eagles' relay team consisted of Krista Peachey (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin), Kerry McClaughry (Somerville, N.J./Somerville), Jocelyn Skelly (Hershey, Pa./Hershey) and Emily Stahl (State College, Pa./State College Area).

Skelly, Stahl and Maiya Mastovich (Johnstown, Pa./Westmont Hilltop) came in third, fourth and sixth, respectively, in the 50 freestyle. Skelly was just four seconds behind Cal U's first place finisher with her time of 31.07. Stahl hit the wall at 31.84 and Mastovich at 34.00. All together, the swimmers in all six lanes completed the event within six seconds of each other.

Skelly then earned the Eagles' first event victory in the 100 butterfly when she completed the event in 1:11.75. Her closest Cal U competitor finished three seconds behind her. Peachey placed third with a time of 1:16.71.

Elise Kury (Willow Street, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg), Elena Diaz de Marco and Nadia Moss (Narragansett, R.I./St. Margaret's School, Va.) completed the 100 back at second, third and fourth, all within two seconds of one another. Kury pulled in second with a time of 1:30.19, while Diaz de Marco and Moss finished at 1:31.21 and 1:31.89.

Emily Angeline (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin East) and McClaughry took first and second in the 400 free as they marked times of 5:26.36 and 5:28.68.

Juniata is heading to Scranton Saturday, Nov. 5, for the Landmark Tri-Meet with Goucher starting at 1 p.m.
