Eagles Finish Day One of Cal-U Invite in Third

CALIFORNIA, Pa. – The Juniata women's swim team earned 201 points on the first day of competition at the CAL-U Vulcan Invite Friday.

Senior Sarah Rhodes (Bloomfield, NY / Bloomfield Central) made tremendous strides in the pool with an impressive showing in the 200-yard butterfly, swimming a time of 2:41.52. Rhodes also competed in the 400-yard IM race, finishing in second place, and helped teammates Hannah Shumway (Slippery Rock, Pa. / Slippery Rock), Jocelyn Skelly (Hershey, Pa. / Hershey High School), and Tzvia Cahn (San Jose / Kehilia Jewish) place second in the 200-yard medley relay.

Shumway and Skelly placed fifth and sixth respectively in the 100-yard backstroke. Skelly also placed 4th in the 50-yard backstroke, swimming a time of 33.13. Senior Christine Whiteman (Delmont, Pa. / Franklin Regional) and sophomore Elizabeth Hainsworth (Glade Spring / Patrick Henry) placed fifth and sixth in the 200-yard freestyle with Cahn following in eighth place.

The team will return to action Saturday at 10 a.m.
