Juniata Races Goucher and Scranton on Senior Day

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – The Juniata women's swimming team celebrated senior day at their first Landmark Conference meet of the season against Goucher and Scranton Saturday afternoon.

"The team swam great overall," head coach Nathan Smith said. "They have been practicing well, and it came through today." 

The Eagles ended the meet having earned several season and personal best times in various events. Freshman Jocelyn Skelly (Hershey, Pa. / Hershey High School) placed first in the 100-meter butterfly with a personal best time of 1:10.14. Skelly teamed up with Francesca Ferguson (Altoona, Pa. / Altoona Area HS), Elizabeth Hainsworth (Glade Spring / Patrick Henry), and Tzvia Cahn (San Jose / Kehilia Jewish) to place 2nd in the 200-meter freestyle relay with a time of 2:15.07. 

Hainsworth earned a personal best time in the 200 and 400-meter freestyle races, placing 4th in both. Senior Chrissy Whiteman (Delmont / Franklin Regional) followed in 5th place in each race.

Ferguson reached two personal best times at the meet along with fellow freshman Emily Angeline (Harrisburg, Pa. / Central Dauphin East). Ferguson placed 4th in the 100-meter freestyle and 6th in the 50-meter freestyle while Angeline placed 4th in the 800-meter freestyle. Senior Caitlin McCann (Chevy Chase, Md. / Bethesda Chevy Chase) followed Angeline in the 800-meter freestyle in 5th place and also finished 4th in the 100-meter breaststroke. 

Cahn placed 3rd in the 50-meter freestyle with a time of 29.28 and 5th in the 100-meter freestyle. Hannah Shumway (Slippery Rock, Pa. / Slippery Rock) placed 4th in the 100-meter backstroke and 7th in the 200-meter individual medley, both of which were personal best times. 

"The underclassmen had really good races today," Smith said. "We are looking forward to Kutztown next weekend and the Swarthmore Invitational the week after."

The Eagles will return to action next weekend, Nov. 14, at Kutztown University. Start time is 1 p.m.
