Women’s Swimming Victorious in Last Home Meet

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – Juniata women's swimming defeated Penn State Altoona 98-60 Saturday morning. Five different swimmers captured individual wins on the day. Senior Hillary Palmer (Fayetteville, Ga./Fayette County) picked up victories in two events in her final regular season collegiate meet.

 

The Eagles won the day's first event, the 200 medley relay, as the team of Palmer, freshman Erika Fimple (Drexel Hill, Pa./Upper Darby), and sophomores Emily Nye (Shippensburg, Pa./Shippensburg) and Tzvia Cahn (San Jose, Calif./Kehilla Jewish) recorded a time of 2:07.91.

 

Sophomores Chrissy Whiteman (Delmont, Pa./Franklin Regional) and Caitlin McCann (Chevy Chase, Md./Bethesda Chevy Chase) when 1-2 in the 200 free. The Eagles swept the top three spots in two events; the 100 back and 100 breast. In the 100 breast, Palmer touched the wall first with a mark of 1:11.45. Junior Mary Kate Meingossner (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) and sophomore Sarah Rhodes (Bloomfield, N.Y./Bloomfield) followed in second and third, respectively. Palmer also picked up a win in the 100 free.

 

Fimple won the 100 breast in 1:22.46, just out touching Nye for the win. McCann finished third with a time of 1:28.31. In the 50 free, Cahn finished first while classmate Nye came in third. Meingossner accounted for Juniata's final victory of the day. She touched the wall first in the 200 back.

 

The Eagles take a break from competition before competing in the Landmark Conference Championships at Marywood University Feb. 7-9. Juniata hopes to improve upon their sixth place finish last year.
