Fimple Sets Program Record, Women’s Swimming Drops Tri-Meet

SCRANTON, Pa. – In their first Landmark Conference meet of the New Year, Juniata women's swimming team fell to Marywood University 79-119 and Susquehanna University 60.50-133.50. Freshman Erika Fimple (Drexel Hill, Pa./Upper Darby) picked up where she left off in 2013, setting a new school record in the 100 butterfly. She touched the wall second with a time of 1:01.34, just one hundredth of a second behind the first place finisher.

 

In the 50 free, sophomore Tzvia Cahn (San Jose, Calif./Kehilla Jewish) finished second with a career-best mark of 26.54. Fellow sophomore Emily Nye (Shippensburg, Pa./Shippensburg) finished third in the 100 free, recording a time of 56.90.

 

Senior Hillary Palmer (Fayetteville, Ga./Fayette County) picked up Juniata's lone individual win, finishing first in the 100 backstroke in a season-best time of 1:03.41.

 

Juniata continued its success in the 400 yard free relay. The team of Palmer, Fimple, sophomore Chrissy Whiteman (Delmont, Pa./Franklin Regional), and Nye recorded a time of 3:49.30 to win the final event of the afternoon.

 

The Eagles will continue Landmark action when they travel to Drew University on Saturday, Jan. 18. The meet is set to begin at 1 p.m.
