Fimple Breaks School Record, Women’s Swimming Finishes Third

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Juniata women's swimming team finished in third place overall at Swarthmore Invitational on Saturday evening. Freshman Erika Fimple (Drexel Hill, Pa./Upper Darby) earned second place in the 200 butterfly in a time of 2:17.19, breaking the program record in the process. Her mark beat the previous record by exactly seven tenths of a second.

 

Fimple also captured up a second place finish in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:02.33. In the same event, junior Meghan Swavely (Hummelstown, Pa./Palmyra) placed fifth in 1:03.22.

 

Senior Hillary Palmer (Fayetteville, Ga./Fayette County) finished fifth in the 100 backstroke by hitting the wall in 1:04.68.

 

Junior Kim Proenca (Thorton, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) was sixth in the 100 breaststroke in a time of 1:18.76.

 

The Eagles picked up a solid third place finish in the 200 yard medley relay. The team made up of Palmer, Swavely, sophomore Emily Nye (Shippensburg, Pa./Shippensburg), and Fimple clocked in at 1:56.55.

 

The same squad teamed up in the last event of the night, 400 yard free relay, to pick up a second place finish with a time of 3:45.74.

 

Juniata amassed 434 total points throughout the two days. Ursinus College won the meet with 1,071 points.

 

The Eagles take a break for the holiday season. They will return to action on January 11, 2014 when they head to Marywood University in a Landmark tri-meet.
