MANSFIELD, Pa. – Juniata women's swimming dropped a close meet to NCAA Division II Mansfield University 99-101 Friday evening in its season-opener.

The Eagles (0-1) captured eight straight wins and placed second in two other events, but it was not enough to overcome the Mountaineers.

Freshman Erika Fimple (Drexel Hill, Pa. / Upper Darby) made a huge impact in her collegiate debut. In her first event of the night, the 100 butterfly, she captured a win. Fimple, with a time of 1:02.77, now holds the fifth fastest time in program history, in the event.

Sophomore Emily Nye (Shippensburg, Pa./Shippensburg) and senior Hillary Palmer (Fayetteville, Ga./Fayette County) each won two individual events in the meet.  Sophomore Chrissy Whiteman (Delmont, Pa. / Franklin Regional) earned a win of her own.
The Eagle relay team comprised of Tzvia Cahn (San Jose, Calif. / Kehilla Jewish), Fimple, Meghan Swavely (Hummelstown, Pa. / Palmyra), and Nye won the 200 yard freestyle by over eight seconds with a time of 1:46.75.

Juniata hosts their first home meet of the season against Millersville University on Friday, Oct. 25. The competition is set to begin at 7:30 p.m. in Binder Natatorium.
