Eagles Finish Sixth at Landmark Championships

SCRANTON, Pa. – After three days at the Landmark Conference Swimming and Diving Championships hosted by Marywood University, the Juniata women's swimming team earned sixth place with 318 points.

 

Junior Hillary Palmer (Fayetteville, Ga./Fayette County) followed her backstroke title winning performance yesterday with a second place finish in the 100 freestyle championship.  Her 54.27 second finish set a new personal record and was the second fastest in program history.  She finished less than a second behind the winner. 

 

Also swimming in the race was freshman Emily Nye (Shippensburg, Pa./Shippensburg).  Her time of 56.10 seconds put her in fifth overall and broke her previous personal best of 56.39.

 

This season, the Eagles broke three program records at the Landmark Championships.  Palmer now owns the 200 IM and 100 backstroke records.  She also swam leadoff on the 400 free relay team comprised of Nye, sophomore Meghan Swavely (Hummelstown, Pal/Palmyra) and freshman Chrissy Whiteman (Delmont, Pa./Franklin Regional) that broke the record by 1.11 seconds.


The foursome sprinkle their names among the top 10 times in program history for several events including 50 free (Nye), 100 free (Palmer, Nye), 200 free (Whiteman), 500 free (Whiteman), 100 backstroke (Palmer, Nye), 100 Butterfly (Swavely) and 200 IM (Palmer).

 

Also making their mark on history were sophomores Raegyn Taylor (Huntingdon, Pa./Home School) and Alyssa Peachey (Hummelstown, Pa./Lower Dauphin), with freshmen Sarah Rhodes (Bloomfield, N.Y./Bloomfield) and Caitlin McCann (Chevy Chase, Md./Bethesda Chevy Chase).  Taylor has one of the top 10 times in the 100 breaststroke.  She also appears on the 200 breaststroke list with McCann.  Peachey has one of the top 200 butterfly times and Rhodes made her way onto the 400 IM list.

 

Juniata finished the 2012-13 season 6-6 in dual meets.
