Juniata Tied for Fifth After First Day of Landmark Championships

SCRANTON, Pa. – The Juniata women's swimming team sits in fifth place after day one of the 2013 Landmark Conference Championships at Marywood University.  Junior Hillary Palmer (Fayetteville, Ga./Fayette County) earned third place in the 200 IM, breaking the school record in the process.  Her 2:13.32 mark beat the previous record by just over a second.

 

Palmer also competed in the 200 free relay and 400 medley, where she earned third and fourth, respectively.  Freshman Emily Nye (Shippensburg, Pa./Shippensburg) placed fifth overall in the 50 free after finishing in 25.59 seconds.

 

In the 500 free, freshman Chrissy Whiteman (Delmont, Pa./Franklin Regional) advanced to the finals where she had the seventh fastest time, finishing in 5:29.66.

 

The championships continue at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 9 and will continue until Sunday evening.
