Juniata Defeats Goucher but Falls to Scranton, Moves to 4-3 on Season

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – Juniata women's swimming won four events at their meet against both Goucher College and the University of Scranton Saturday afternoon.  The Eagles fell to Scranton 178-83, but defeated the Gophers 157-83 to improve to 4-3 on the season, 1-2 against Landmark opponents. 

 

Freshman Emily Nye (Shippensburg, Pa./Shippensburg) won both the 50 and 100 free individual events in 28.66 and 1:04.57, respectively.  She also swam anchor on the Eagles first place 200 medley relay.  Nye has won the 50 free four times this year, but this was her first 100 free win.

 

Also picking up a first place finish was sophomore Meghan Swavely (Hummelstown, Pa./Palmyra).  She finished the 100 butterfly in 1:14.01, just 0.54 seconds ahead of Scranton's Hannah Scobee.

 

A handful of other Eagles had second and third place finishes in their respective events. Chrissy Whiteman (Delmont, Pa./Franklin Regional) had the most top three finishes on the day.  A member of the 200 medley relay, she was also third leg on the 200 free medley that placed second with a time of 1:58.73.  Earlier in the day, the freshman finished second in the 200 free (2:19.14) and third in the 100 free (1:05.66) and 400 free (4:49.25).

 

Juniata hits the road again for the remainder of 2012.  They face Bryn Mawr and Dickinson next on Saturday, Nov. 17 at 1 p.m.
