Women’s swimming finishes program-best fifth at Landmark meet

SCRANTON, Pa. – Juniata College women's swimming completed the program's best season in recent years by finishing fifth at the 2012 Landmark Conference Swimming & Diving Championships, which concluded Sunday at the Marywood Aquatic Center.

Juniata finished with 339 points, after picking up 97 points on the final day of competition.

The Eagles earned 30 of those points in the 400 Free Relay, where the Juniata quartet of Hillary Palmer (Fayetteville, Ga./Fayette County), Kelsey Miles (Huntingdon, Pa./Huntingdon Area), Shayna King (Easton, Pa./Easton Area), and Mary Kate Meingossner (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) finished fourth with a time of 3:46.19.

Kathryn Viola (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East) had Juniata's top individual effort of the day, finishing fifth in the 200 Breaststroke with a time of 2:33.48. Meingossner matched Viola's effort with her own fifth-place standing in the 100 Freestyle with a time of 56.21.

Falon Snyder (Walnutport, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic) took sixth in the 200 Backstroke with a time of 2:15.32. Snyder also earned points for the Eagles in the 1650 Freestyle, posting a time of 19:17.63.

Susquehanna University captured the Landmark women's swimming and diving crown on the last event of the meet, finishing with 696 points. The University of Scranton was second with 687 points, followed by the United States Merchant Marine Academy (474.50) and Catholic University of America (443).

Trailing the Eagles was Marywood University (279), Drew University (247) and Goucher College (172.50).
