Women’s swimming completes day one of Landmark Championships with 100 points

SCRANTON, Pa. – Juniata women's swimming competed in the first day of the Landmark Conference Championships Friday evening and turned out 100 points to place sixth of eight.

100 points puts the Eagles just 12 points behind no. five Marywood, and 17 points in front of no. seven Drew University. The University of Scranton leads in the championships with 204 points.

Sophomore Kathryn Viola (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East) opened the day of competition with a Juniata record-breaking time in the 200-yard individual medley preliminary race with a 2:14.67 time. Viola placed second in that same event when she competed in the finals with a 2:15.04 time, a time that earned her no. 2 on Juniata's 200 IM all-time leaders list.

Viola teamed with freshman Mary Kate Meingossner (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn), freshman Meghan Swavley and sophomore Hillary Palmer (Fayetteville, Ga./Fayette County) in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The squad took away a fifth place time of 1:43.31 to earn Juniata 28 meet points.

Viola, Meingossner, sophomore Kelsey Miles (Huntingdon, Pa./Huntingdon Area), and sophomore Falon Snyder (Walnutport, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic) took home a fifth place finish in the 400-yard medley relay with a finishing time of 4:14.33.

Miles was the only other Eagle to place in the top ten of a solo event, a seventh place finish in the 500-yard freestyle. Miles reached the wall in 5:22.06.

The Eagles continue with day two of Landmark Conference Championships at Marywood University on February 11.
