Viola leads women’s swimming at Swarthmore Invite

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Sophomore Kathryn Viola (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East) led the Juniata College women's swimming squad with 32 individually earned points during the second day of competition at the Swarthmore Invitational. The squad finished the competition seventh out of 10 teams with 283 points.

Viola captured the only first place finish for Juniata in the 100-yard breaststroke for 20 points. She swam against 17 other swimmers and finished the race with a time of 1:10.71. In the 200-yard breaststroke a 2:37.03 time earned Viola a seventh place finish; one of nine top ten finishes Juniata had in the second day of competition.

Sophomore Falon Snyder (Walnutport, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic) earned a fourth place finish in the 1650-yard freestyle with an 18:57.52 time to earn Juniata 15 points. She then landed a ninth place finish with a time of 1:04.99 in the 100-yard backstroke to earn nine points. Snyder got another ninth place finish in the 200-yard backstroke and finished in just 2:19.43.

Just a few events later, Snyder teamed with sophomore Kelsey Miles (Huntingdon, Pa./Huntingdon Area), Viola and freshman Mary Kate Meingossner (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) in the 800-yard freestyle relay, an event not yet swam by Juniata this season, for a seventh place finish with a 8:28.77 time.

In the 200-yard medley relay, Meingossner and freshman Meghan Swavley (Hummelstown, Pa./Palmyra) accompanied by Viola and sophomore Hillary Palmer (Fayetteville, Ga./Fayette County) took another seventh place finish with a time of 1:58.47 to earn the Eagles 24 points.

The Eagles enter a month long break and will not return to the pool until January 20, at Lock Haven University for a 6:00 p.m. contest.
