Women’s swimming swims strong in day one of Swarthmore Invite

SWARTHMORE, Pa. – Juniata College women's swimming had five top ten places in day one of the Swarthmore Invitational on Friday.

Sophomore Hillary Palmer (Fayetteville, Ga./Fayette County) and freshmen Mary Kate Meingossner (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn), Meghan Swavely (Hummelstown, Pa./Palmyra), and Shayna King (Easton, Pa./Easton Area) teamed-up for a seventh place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:48.05.  

Sophomore Kelsey Miles (Huntingdon, Pa./Huntingdon Area) grabbed a 10th place finish of 50 swimmers in the 500-yard freestyle. Miles finished with a 5:28.92 time, earning the Eagles seven team points.

In the 200-yard individual medley sophomore Kathryn Viola (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East) earned Juniata the top finish of the night with a 2:16.98 time good enough for fifth place. The high finish gave Juniata 14 points. Later in the meet, Viola raced against 58 50-yard freestyle swimmers and swam to a seventh place finish with a 25.82 time.

The invite continues Saturday, December 3, at Swarthmore. The evening swim session is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m.
