Viola picks up a pair of individual firsts for Juniata swimming at Dickinson quad

CARLISLE, Pa. – Sophomore Kathryn Viola (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East) notched a pair of first-place finishes to lead Juniata College women's swimming to wins over Chatham University and Bryn Mawr College in a quad meet hosting Friday night by Dickinson College. The Eagles fell to Dickinson in the meet, however exact team scores were not available.

Viola took first in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:18.56, nearly two seconds better than her best time in the event this season. Viola also took first in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:12.47, and swam the second leg of Juniata's first-place team in the 200 medley relay.

The Eagles' 200 medley relay time of 1:58.36 was the second-fastest this season, based on times heading into Friday's meets. Viola was joined by Mary Kate Meingossner (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn), Meghan Swavely (Hummelstown, Pa./Palmyra) and Hillary Palmer (Fayetteville, Ga./Fayette County) in winning the 200 MR.

Juniata took first in the 200 free relay, with the team of Kelsey Miles (Huntingdon, Pa./Huntingdon Area), Alyssa Peachey (Hummelstown, Pa./Palmyra), Falon Snyder (Walnutport, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic) and Shayna King (Easton, Pa./Easton) posting a time of 1:50.21.

Snyder took third in the 1000 free with a time of 11:40.49, while Meingossner took second in the 200 free with a mark of 2:06.20 and was third in the 100 backstroke in 1:06.74.  Miles was third in the 500 freestyle, finishing in a time of 5:44.90.

Juniata has one final meet before heading into the winter break – December 2-3, 2001, when the Eagles compete at the Swarthmore Invitational.
