Women’s swimming splits at Landmark tri-meet

TOWSON, Md. – Juniata College women's swimming opened Landmark Conference action with a split at a tri-meet with Goucher College and the University of Scranton Saturday afternoon at Goucher.

The Eagles defeated the Gophers 86-35, but fell to the Royals 84-37.

Freshman Mary Kate Meingossner (Landsdale, Pa./North Penn) took first in the 100-meter backstroke with a time of 1:04.98 to earn Juniata five points. 

Sophomore Falon Snyder (Walnutport, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic) reached the wall nearly two seconds before any of her opponents in the 1000-meter freestyle with a first-place time of 11:45.87. Snyder also earned a second-place finish in the 200-meter backstroke with a 2:22.37 time, as well as in the 100-meter fly, finishing in 1:07.26.

In the 100-meter breaststroke, sophomore Kathryn Viola (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East) once again clinched first with a 1:11.34 time. In the 200 individual medley, Viola finished second for three points with a time of 2:22.16. Viola also took second in the 200-meter breast with a 2:40.21 finishing time.

Sophomore Kelsey Miles (Huntingdon, Pa./Huntingdon Area) brought home two second-place finishes in the tri-meet in the 100 and 500-meter free. Miles touched the wall in the 100 in just 58.69 seconds and finished the 500 in 5:44.28.

Juniata continues their road-streak next Saturday, Nov. 18 in a four-way meet between Dickinson University, Byrn Mawr College, and Chatham University. The meet will be held at Dickinson beginning at 6:00 p.m.
