Women’s swimming takes down the Mounties 121-76

MANSFIELD, Pa. – The Juniata College women's swimming team earned seven first place finishes on their way to a 121-76 victory over the Mounties of Mansfield University, Friday evening at Decker Pool.

The Eagles broke open the meet with a 200-yard medley relay win with a combined time of 2:04.22 for 11 points.

Senior Evan Beatty (Hershey, Pa./Hershey) had a standout night, finishing first in the 1000-yard freestyle beating her closest opponent by nearly four seconds. In the 500-yard free Beatty clinched four points for the Eagles by finishing second with a 6:05.04 time.

Sophomore Kathryn Viola (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East) took first in both of her events, the 100-yard breaststroke and the 200-yard individual medley. She beat out her Mansfield foe with six seconds to spare in the 200 IM, reaching the wall with a time of 2:20.58. In the 100 breaststroke, Viola earned nine points for Juniata finishing first with a time of 1:13.84.

Freshman Mary Kate Meingossner (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) earned the Eagles 18 points as she also swam to two first place finishes. Meingossner finished the 100-yard backstroke in 1:06.02, following a 50-yard freestyle 26.91 finish time.

Sophomores Kelsey Miles (Huntingdon, Pa./Huntingdon Area) and Falon Snyder (Walnutport, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic) each chipped in nine points apiece in their respective races. Miles won the 100-yard freestyle with a 1.22 second margin between her and second place Mountie Lindsey Gregg, while Snyder coasted to first over her competition with a 1:07.05 time.

"We had some of the most challenging workouts this week, and for the girls to come out, race hard, and post some really good in-season times, shows a lot about this team's potential, and I'm excited about watching what this team does throughout the rest of the season," said Head Coach Lauren O'Donnell.

The Eagles remain on the road next Saturday, Nov. 5, at the Chatham University Invitational. The meet has a schedule start time of 2:00 p.m.
