Women’s swimming picked sixth in Landmark preseason poll

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – The Juniata College women's swimming team finished sixth at last year's Landmark Conference Swimming & Diving Championships and that's where the Eagles are picked to finish in 2012, according to voting by the league's head coaches and sports information directors released Monday.

Juniata was sixth in the preseason poll with 29 points. The Eagles were picked to finish ahead of associate member Marywood University with 27 points, and Goucher College with 19 points.

Defending champion Susquehanna University was the coaches' and SID's pick to win the conference title in 2012 with 73, with the University of Scranton and Catholic University of America tied for second with 68 points each.

The United States Merchant Marine Academy was picked fourth with 45 points, with Drew University checking in at fifth in the poll with 35 points.

The Eagles are led by All-Landmark Conference honoree Kelsey Miles (Huntingdon, Pa./Huntingdon Area), who took first in the 100m freestyle at this past Friday's season opening tri-meet at home against Marywood and Millersville University. Miles also placed second in the 200m freestyle, and ran the opening leg of Juniata's first-place squad in the 200m free relay.

The 2012 Landmark Conference Swimming & Diving Championships will take place Feb. 10-12 at Marywood University in Scranton, Pa.
