Eagles Drop Narrow 1-0 Decision to Royals

Eagles Drop Narrow 1-0 Decision to Royals

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – The Juniata women's soccer team fell to the Scranton Royals 1-0 Saturday afternoon at Gibbel Stadium through the on-and-off showers persisting through the match.

Avery Zales kept a shutout through the second half and made a total of eight saves on the day. The Royals outshot the Eagles 22-2, with only one getting past Zales in the 34th minute of play.

During the 20th minute, Amelia Yordy found herself on a quick break away but surrounded by Scranton defenders and an approaching keeper. Without much control, Yordy attempted to get a foot on it and push the ball past the keeper, but the keeper's aggressive steps toward the ball made for a swift save. The Royals' lone goal came from a single player in the box flicking the ball over an Eagle defender and volleying it into the net.

Ashley McWilliams had Juniata's other shot of the day. After Juniata's free kick was defended, the ball became loose and popped out to McWilliams about thirty yards out. She took a touch and ripped one off her right foot, but the shot went wide of the goal.

The Eagles continue Landmark Conference play and travel to Susquehanna on Tuesday, October 17, for a 7:00 p.m. start.
