Eagles Settle for Scoreless Draw Against Gophers

BALTIMORE, Md.- Neither side was able to find the back of the net as Juniata earned its first point in the Landmark Conference competition in a 0-0 draw at Goucher College on Saturday.

Avery Zales saved all seven shots on goal from the Gophers in a game where Goucher outshot Juniata 15-7 overall and 7-3 for on-target attempts.

Ashley McWilliams was the first player from either team to test a keeper in the tenth minute with a 30-yard shot that the keeper had sight of the whole way. The Gophers generated four shots over the next 15 minutes of play with two routine collections for Zales in goal. Goucher's best chance of the half came off a corner in the 32nd minute on a headed shot from 12 yards out from a corner that went directly to Zales.

Juniata's strongest chance of the game came on the other side of halftime in the 50th minute when Mariah McDonald headed a ball into the ground toward the center of the goal before it was cleared by the Gophers' defense. Goucher tested the Eagles in the 53rd minute with a shot from about ten yards out to force Zales into a diving snag after a Gophers player dribbled past a Juniata defender to Zales' left.

Goucher's final strong chance came in the 68th minute on a 25-yard shot from the left side destined for the top-right corner, although Zales spotted the ball early for a relatively routine grab.

The Eagles will have a midweek Landmark Conference match next, as they play at Elizabethtown College on Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m.
