Eagles Drop Seaon Opener to Titans

HUNTINGDON, Pa. – The women's soccer team opened up their season with a 2-0 loss to the Titans under the lights at Gibbel Stadium Friday night. Westminster outshot the Eagles 20-5.

Ashley McWilliams took the Eagles' only shot in the first half from a free kick but missed high over the goal. The Titans totaled nine shots in the first half but couldn't find the back of the net.

Savanna Murray moved around a defender to take a left-footed shot just inside the right half of the 18-yard box before the goalie saved it. Westminster scored their first goal in the 55th minute of the game. McKaye Wilton found herself in scoring position on the right side of the field but was just short of the goal, missing wide. Alyssa Bui took a free kick from the left side, and the Titans' keeper bobbled it before eventually falling on the ball for a save. McWilliams took her second shot from thirty yards out directly at the Westminster keeper, who made an effortless save.

Westminster's second goal came from a free kick. The ball curved around the defensive wall and hit the corner of the pipe to deflect into the net, making the final score 2-0.

Avery Zales tallied six saves on the night for a .750 save percentage.

Juniata heads to Penn State Altoona tomorrow, Saturday, August 2, for a 4:00 pm start time.
