Eagles Soar Past Bearcats

HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The Juniata women's soccer team tallied three goals in the first half on their way to a 5-0 win over visiting Saint Vincent, Tuesday afternoon at Gibbel Stadium. 

In the 22nd minute, Brooke Rotheram (Harrisburg, Pa. / Central Dauphin East) disposed the Saint Vincent center back and the ball went down the left and Meadow Walshaw Wertz (Sunbury, Pa. / Line Mountain) ran onto it. She took a few touches into the box and fired a left-footed shot past the keeper into the roof of the net to make it 1-0. 

Nearly three minutes later, Talia Bertrando (Lititz, Pa. / Warwick High School) took a shot from the right end line that deflected off a Bearcat defender and in to double the Eagle lead. 

In the 40th minute, Sydney Riegel (Centre Hall, Pa. / Penns Valley) came down the left-wing, cut towards the middle and around a defender be she slotted a shot into the left corner of the net for her first career goal.

Juniata led 3-0 at halftime. 

Four minutes into the second half, Rotheram ripped a shot from the 18 that rocketed past the keeper to push the Eagle advantage to 4-0. 

In the 88th minute, Brooke Emge (Waynesboro, Pa. / Shalom Christian Academy) played Walshaw-Wertz in and she beat the keeper low and to the left to make it 5-0. 

Juniata outshot the Bearcats, 23-1. 

Gianna Canale (Egg Harbor City, N.J. / Cedar Creek High School) had one save to get her second shutout of the year. 

Juniata will travel to Moravian to open conference play, Saturday at 4:00.
