Greyhounds Defeat Eagles

HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The Juniata women's soccer team lost to visiting Moravian, 6-1, in their conference opener Saturday afternoon at Gibbel Stadium. 

The Eagles had a couple opportunities early as Caroline Braas (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) and Talia Bertrando (Lititz, Pa./Warwick High School) forced the Greyhound keeper to make back to back saves nine minutes in. 

Moravian struck three times in five minutes as they quickly built a 3-0 lead. Juniata denied them any more as JC trailed 3-0 at the half. 

The Greyhounds tacked on two more in the opening five minutes of the second half to make it 5-0.

Brooke Rotheram (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin East) was taken down in the box in the 50thminute, and the Eagles were awarded a PK. Emma Moreland (Lebanon, Pa./Cedar Crest) stepped up and slotted it into the right corner to put the Eagles on the board. It was her first career goal. 

The Greyhounds tallied one more in the 64thminute to make it 6-1. 

Gianna Canale (Egg Harbor City, N.J./Cedar Creek HS) made four saves for JC.

The Eagles return to action Tuesday the 25that Saint Vincent.
