Women's Soccer Drops 2-0 Decision at Susquehanna

SELINSGROVE, Pa.- The River Hawks scored a goal in each half as the Juniata women's soccer team lost, 2-0, to Susquehanna in a downpour Wednesday evening at Sassafras Field.

Kerry Leonard (Cockeysville, Md./Maryvale Prep) started the game in goal and made two saves before Shannon Kriz (Brinigsville, Pa./Parkland) finished the game, making one save of her own.

Susquehanna scored the opening goal seven minutes into the game.

Juniata totaled three shots, all on goal. Aubrie Christensen (Suwanee, Ga./Manheim Township) fired in the 32nd minute and Meadow Walshaw-Wertz (Sunbury, Pa./Line Mountain) followed with a shot of her own two minutes later, but the keeper was equal to both as Juniata went into the half down 1-0.

Susquehanna scored their second less than two minutes into the second half to double their lead. Kristin Racis (Womesldorf, Pa./Conrad Weiser) had the final shot of the game for Juniata in the 65th minute.

Juniata held a 7-0 advantage in corner kicks, which head coach Scott McKenzie talked about after the match. "We lacked any consistent attacking threat. We were able to push forward as shown by the number of corner kicks but didn't pose a consistent danger in front of their goal. We need to regroup and put our best foot forward on Saturday against Scranton."

The Eagles will host Scranton, Saturday at 1:00.
